Handwoven Sculptural Form

The inspiration as a visual artist came from my childhood lived experience among the community of Yoruba artisans in Nigeria with whom I was encouraged to play with different natural materials and participates in the arts of woven Aso-Oke, Yoruba renowned colourful traditional high textiles, and basketry. Their dynamic traditional storytelling being passed from one generation to the next is one of the greatest source of my creativity.

The Cradle of Wonders

Egypt is one of the earlier civilizations, first settled around 6,000 BC.

Evidence from the tombs in Theban Necropolis, the ancient burial ground of Egyptians 18th, 19th, and 20th Dynasties (British Museum, The Lidded Basket containing fruit, Reg. No.5395) the first known high quality baskets made of pliable palm fibre started in Egypt and spread to other ethnic cultures all over the world.

Fusion of Glass & Metal Alloy

Glass is light, Glass is colour, Glass is magic

One cannot talk of glass as material without honouring the ingenuity of the craftsmen working in glass in Mesopotamia; the land between Tigris and Euphrates Rivers over 4,000 years ago. They discovered the art of mixing sand, soda, and lime to make material glass, heating it in open moulds and cast into objects.

Curiosity of these materials and captivating power of glass led me to explore the intrinsic relationship of glass and metal. ‘The alchemy, parallel, and hot fusion of both mediums’. I researched, experiment and developed own metal alloys which I successfully mixes with glass using lost-wax techniques, and kiln-cast into aesthetic form of artwork, depicting the beauty of nature and the natural world. These are unique to each piece.
